Big 5 Safari

Its hard to believe that to experience the magnificence of a big 5 safari, it doesn't mean you have to go all the way to the North of South Africa, or that it requires several days. You can experience the magnificent Big 5 up close a mere 2½ hour's drive away from the fast paced concrete jungle, and chartered flights, just an hour away, have allowed tourists in their thousands to see the wildlife for themselves, setting the seal on a trend that has is still growing. On a big 5 safari you may find there are wildlife populations elsewhere every bit as spectacular as those in Africa, yet some of them, like those found in Antarctic are inaccessible and difficult to see, whereas only a few hours away these spectctular scenes play out before your eyes. Game rangers in open topped vehicles allow you to savour the smells of the bush as they source out the best hilltops or valleys to make sure that you get to see at least some of these sought after creatures on a big 5 safari.

Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is set in 42 000 hectares of pristine landscape, covered in open grasslands, bisected by a few rivers lined with riverine woodland and these are the sleeping venues for a number of owl species while the rocky outcrops are home to the solitary and silent leopard, who in keeping with the general carnivore rule of opportunism, takes advantage of the rocks to hide and lurch out at unsuspecting impala.

But mention a big 5 safari to Africa and the mighty lion springs immediately to mind, the fascination no doubt due to the size and awesome power of this large cat, and its hunting prowess.

A segment of pristine Africa known as Welgevonden Game Reserve is preserved virtually intact where an enormous variety of wild creatures live the same life that their kind have known for untold thousands of years and Mhondoro Lodge gives the ultimate sanctuary to you and its animals.
