The Welgevonden Reserve is part of the larger United Waterberg Biosphere which spans over a 100 000 hectare stretch of land that is a delight to visit. The big five game farm is home to the famous big five, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros. The area surrounding the big five game farm is land that varies from outcrops of rock where you will often find a leopard relaxing or the vast plains with large numbers of antelope including zebra, wildebeest and impala.

Game drives:

This drive will allow you to stop and gaze in wonder at the mighty big five, the lion with his mane of pride, the stealthy and majestic leopard, the towering elephants who use their trunks with agility and practiced effort, the rhinoceros with it powerful limbs and sought after horns or the aggressive buffalo that move in large herds.

Upon your arrival at the main gates of the big five game farm you will be greeted by our friendly staff and a cool drink to quench your thirst or just to refresh yourself then you will embark on your first Game drive through the big five game farm towards the main lodge. All the game drives you go on will be accompanied by drinks and the early morning drives will include something hot to eat and drink to keep your bodies warm. Bush walks:

if you would like to be more up close and personal with nature you might want to opt for a bush walk through the big five game farm which will be guided by one of our experienced rangers. All our rangers are passionate about nature and have an infectious love for all things regarding nature and will even get you excited about the little five should you be lucky enough to see them. The little five that you might see during your guided bush walk in the big five game farm include the following:

- the elephant shrew, named so for its long nose that some say resembles an elephants trunk

- the rhinoceros beetle: named so due to the horns that the beetles are born with, this is also one of the largest beetles, the males use their horns for fighting other males regarding females or feeding sites

- the leopard tortoise: this tortoise is brown and yellow in color and can reach up to 60cm in length

- the buffalo weaver: can be found in large untidy nest and are often foraging for food and nest making materials in the wake of a buffalo heard

- the ant lion: can vary in size from 2 to 15cm as a larva it eats insects but otherwise as an adult it eats pollen and nectar.
