Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa is a luxurious, five-star private Safari Lodge and Villa situated within the malaria-free Welgevonden Game Reserve in the Waterberg District of the Limpopo Province of South Africa. In an under three-hour drive or a one hour flight from Johannesburg, you can escape into this ideal safari destination to experience the magic of the Big 5 at home in the African bush.
The Main Lodge is the vibrant heart of Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa. The Main Lodge and private Villa were extensively rebuilt in 2015, following a devastating fire. The masterfully decorated building boasts an Africa-meets-Europe chic and contemporary design that invites guests of all ages, and from all corners of the globe, to make themselves at home.
Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa offers the unique opportunity to have an eye-to-eye encounter with wildlife from their underground waterhole hide. The hide is connected to the Main Lodge through a 65 metre reinforced concrete tunnel and Mhondoro Safari Lodge is the first and only lodge in South Africa to offer this excitingly special experience.
The ultimate in luxury and privacy, Mhondoro Villa is perfectly suited for exclusive family or small group bookings of up to six guests and where every desire has been anticipated in advance. Being set apart from but within short walking distance of the Main Lodge, every comfort has been taken care of through the luxury it offers.
Without even noticing, everyone is taking toxins into their body, either through chemicals sprayed on food, through additives in our food, through cosmetics, air pollution or medicines. Enjoy the ultimate spoil by treating yourself to an exclusive programme. Note: advance bookings are essential due to limited availability!
Welgevonden Game Reserve is home to over fifty animal species, including Africa’s world-famous Big 5: African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard and rhinoceros. Our rangers are experts in tracking these magnificent creatures during the early morning or late afternoon game drives. The 35,000 hectare reserve contains the world’s largest concentration, on private land, of the highly endangered white rhino. The Reserve’s renowned anti-poaching unit has ensured that not one of these gargantuan grazers has ever been lost to poaching – an incredible feat on a continent where the practice is endemic.

Cheetahs are beautiful creatures. They have stunning ‘tear drop’ facial markings, lean and graceful bodies with long, flat rudder-like tails, and they can go from zero to 60km per hour.

In 2008 we fell in love with Welgevonden Game Reserve and became the proud owners of Mhondoro. We do not live in South Africa, but we try to fly over here as often as possible.
‘Thank you very much for a wonderful stay. This experience has made it to the top of my best travel destinations.’
'Having spent 3 nights and 4 days at Mhondoro both my fiance and I could only describe this place as heaven!'
