Driving through the southern part of the Welgevonden reserve, we go in search of the spotted speedster, the cheetah. After some time, with nearly all hope lost, we turn a corner to find a mother cheetah and her two cubs feasting on a common reedbuck.
Everyone is in awe of this incredible sight. We realise how very recent this kill must have been as another vehicle reported passing through here a mere 40 minutes before. Known as the fastest animal species out there, this mother cheetah managed to chase and take down her prey between rocks and trees – the most difficult and unexpected place for a cheetah kill. It is almost incomprehensible to imagine such efficient hunting skills. Yet, with sheer will and commitment to ensure her cubs get their next meal, she managed to accomplish the unexpected.
